Our Cartagena excursion starts from the cruise port (or your hotel) with a panoramic tour in a private adapted minivan that will take you to the famous Punic Wall, where you will learn about the origins of Cartagena’s history. The Punic Wall is one of the first defensive walls of the city and one of the few remains of Carthaginian civilization in Spain. The itinerary continues to one of the most important legacy of the Roman period, the great Roman Theater and its Museum. The theater was built between 5 and 1 BC and had a capacity of some 6,000 spectators. Our Cartagena accessible shore excursion continues with a stroll through the city’s port, protected by the great wall of Charles III where the first prototype of a submarine was made by the local Isaac Peral. The submarine is now located in an interesting museum which you will have entry to.
Next we will visit the historical center where you can admire the beautiful examples of modernist architecture of early twentieth century, and have free time for a short stroll before the lunch break.
For lunch we drive outside the city to Cabo de Palos village, a coastal village just half an hour from Cartagena where you can eat at a traditional local seafood restaurant (the restaurant has step-free access and offers an adapted toilet).
After lunch the tour continues with a visit to a local family winery where you will receive a warm welcome and will be introduced to a local Cartagenian wine making process, as well as participate at a wine tasting of different artisan produced wines together with an assortment of local cheeses and sobrasadas. After a peaceful rest and a detailed explanation of the history of this unique venue and Cartagena´s tradition around wine, you will be picked-up to be back at the ship on time.
This tour does not require a high amount of walking or wheeling, and it can also be completely tailor-made based on your preference. The itinerary also avoids steep steps and it follows a mostly flat path along the tour.
