Enjoy your stay in Madrid with a full day private tour to Aranjuez, also known as the Royal Estate of Aranjuez, and historical Toledo. We will pick up in Madrid with an adapted vehicle to discover Aranjuez and Toledo with a local tour guide.
To start our tour, we drive for 1 hour to Aranjuez while our official local guide introduce the history of this city. We will visit the main attraction in Aranjuez: the Royal Palace, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built on the order of Santiago, however eventually the Catholic Monarchs assumed authority of this order and Aranjuez then became part of the Royal state with the palace becoming a countryside residence for the Spanish kings. The construction plan for the palace was initiated by Carlos V who wanted to build a large Italian-style villa and his son Felipe II started building in 1564 when he became the next king.
After a lunch break at a local restaurant we continue to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Toledo, a 45 minute drive away, and one of the most important cities in Spain’s history. Our first stop will be Mirador del Valle, a viewpoint from where you can admire the beauty of Toledo’s walled centre. Once in the city, we’ll take a stroll / wheel along the old city to discover one of the richest monumental heritages in Europe, with important buildings such as Bisagra Gate, Cristo de la Luz mosque, Santa María La Blanca and Tránsito synagogues. We will then visit Toledo’s cathedral, Catedral Primada, with it’s Mujedar ornamentation. Inside, you will see paintings by El Greco, Rafael, Tiziano and Goya. After exploring the treasures of Toledo, we will return to Madrid.
This tour does not require a high amount of walking or wheeling, and it can also be completely tailor-made based on each person preferences. Most streets in Toledo are very old and has irregular cobblestoned pavement, so it’s recommended that some people depending on their level of mobility are accompanied. Almost all the halls in Toledo’s Cathedral are accessible. Some points in the Royal Palace have old stone pavement and parts that stand out. There are different adapted bathrooms mapped along the tour. However, the itinerary also avoids steps and it follows a mostly flat path along the Tour.
