Our full day private tour of Palma and Valdemossa explores the highlights of the main town of the island, Palma de Mallorca, and the quaint village of Valdemossa.
Your guide and driver will pick you up and drive along the Maritime Promenade to the Bellver Castle, one of the most unique examples of Gothic civil architecture in Mallorca. From the ramparts, enjoy fantastic views of the city and the port below – a fantastic opportunity to capture the sight on camera.
We then continue to old historical Gothic Quarter with its maze of tiny streets, plazas and courtyards. The tour includes a visit the to the 13th century Gothic styled Cathedral La Seu with it 44 meter high nave and Baroque chapels. Parts of the Cathedral where designed by the Catalan Modernist architect Antoni Gaudi. Next to the cathedral we find Almudaina Palace, a monument which was converted from an Arab fortress into the residence of the Kings of Mallorca. Continuing towards Plaça d’Espanya, we’ll reach Passeig del Born, one of the most lively streets in town, flanked by narrow medieval lanes as well as elegant 19th century buildings.
Stopping for a lunch break (meal not included) we then continue our tour to Valdemossa. Tucked away in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains 20 km north from Palma, you will find the picturesque village of Valldemossa. In this beautiful setting the tour includes a guided walk through the village and a visit to the Carthusian Monastery where the Polish composer Frederick Chopin and the French writer George Sands lived in 1838.
On your way back to Palma, you will finally drive along Palma’s Passeig Maritimo passing the exclusive yacht club, marina and the fish market Sa Llotja, perhaps one of the most outstanding examples of Gothic civil architecture in all the Mediterranean area, with a great facade and fantastic interior. It was built by Guillem Sagrera between 1426 and 1448 and now houses Mallorcas Museum of Arts.
