Discover with this Montgat fish market tour from Barcelona the charm of the daily fishing artisanal auction limited to local fishing, the only one left in Catalonia. The Montgat fish market is famous for the sung auction, a traditional mechanism for selling fish that consists of direct sales by voice.
We will visit Montgat, a town in Maresme, near Barcelona, which has a fleet of fishermen that goes out to fish every day. First we will visit the Paseo Marítim de Montgat, just in front of the Monsolís neighborhood and the Old Town. Next we will visit to the village main Plaza, where the Montgat fish market is located. Your Tour guide will explain you about the fishing culture of Mongat and other curiosities. The Montgat fish auction, declared a heritage site of cultural interest in 2012, is the only traditional auction that is still held on the Catalan coast. It is believed that the fish auction existed before Montgat itself, since it takes place in the area where the Tiana fishermen’s houses were.
Afterwards, we will visit Platja de les Barques, located in the northern part of the center of the town of l’Escala. Mainly it was a space only for the mooring of boats, until in 1962 it was also declared as a space for bathers. We will end this tour of the Montgat fish market from Barcelona enjoying a walk along the promenade and eating a fresh fish meal at a restaurant in the area before we return to Barcelona.
