First, we will visit Montblanc, a beautiful walled town that is one of the must sees of the Cistercian Route, which links the monasteries of Poblet, Santes Creus and Vallbona de les Monges. Here, we will stroll through the streets and will see from outside the Church of Saint Mary of Montblanc, an impressive gothic church that was left incomplete due to the Black Death. Then, we will visit The Montblanc wall which was built in the 14th century, during the so-called “Guerra de los Pedros”. The 1,500-meter walled enclosure, made up of 34 battlement towers, of which only 17 remain today.
Afterwards, we will visit the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Poblet, which is surely the most representative monastery on the Route of the Royal Monasteries of Catalonia and constitutes a true historical and architectural jewel. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1992. Today, a community of more than thirty monks still lives at the Monastery on monastic life. Here we will have the opportunity to appreciate a varied architectural style such as Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.
After immersing yourself in the deep history of Tarragona and the Cistercians, we will return to Tarragona.
