Discover the hidden gems and ancient ruins of the historical city of Tarragona with this wheelchair accessible Tarragona Private Tour from Barcelona. We will visit the remains of the Roman Empire in Spain, which were declared a World Heritage Site in the year 2000. And we will visit the city highlights such as La Rambla and the Old Town.
This experience starts early in the morning from Barcelona. We will drive approximately 1.5 hours to Tarragona, where the official local guide will be waiting for us. We will uncover the ancient history of the city that stretches as far back as the fifth century BC. The tour guide will guide us to the Walls of Tarragona, the oldest Roman monument in the Iberian Peninsula of those that are preserved outside of Italy. During the Archaeological Walk, the Archbishop’s Tower stands out, with notable medieval reforms, and the Minerva Tower, a Roman sculpture with the oldest inscription on the Iberian Peninsula.
Afterwards, we will stroll through the old city and visit the Roman Circus, a building where the horse and chariot races were located between the Via Augusta and the Provincial Forum. We will discover the central area of the Circus, in which there are remains of walls, stands, circus stones and other constructions that were built later. Then, we will visit the Roman Praetorian Tower, which allowed the passage from the lower city to the Provincial Forum, which was connected by underground corridors.
The tour will continue visiting the Roman Amphitheater that completes the trilogy of Roman show buildings in Tarraco. Inside the amphitheater, gladiator fights with beasts were held, as well as public executions. To end our wheelchair accessible Tarragona Private Tour from Barcelona, we will enjoy a walk through La Rambla Nova. Finally, we will return to Barcelona.
